Olynthos Olive Festival

4-5 July 2026 | 21:00
Olynthos village | Sithonia

Celebrating the Living Gold of Central Halkidiki

When the high-summer beach rush begins to transition into the shoulder season, the fertile lowlands of central Halkidiki come alive with harvest preparations. At the center of this agricultural heritage is the historic settlement of Olynthos, home to the annual Olynthos Olive Festival. This event represents a premier celebration of alternative tourism in Halkidiki, drawing food lovers, cultural travelers, and local growers together.

The festival is more than a simple fair; it is a tribute to a tree that has sustained the area since antiquity. The expansive olive groves surrounding Ancient Olynthos feature centuries-old trees that produce the Chondrolia variety—massive, crisp green olives globally recognized for their premium quality, vibrant color, and meaty texture.

Gastronomy, Music, and Authentic Hospitality

The Olynthos Olive Festival transforms the village into a bustling open-air cultural hub, offering visitors a scannable array of rich local experiences.

  • Gastronomy & Local Tastings: Cooperative stands and local producers line the streets, offering free samples of newly cured olives, tapenades, and cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. Local women prepare traditional pies and sweets utilizing regional olive oil, showcasing authentic hospitality at its finest.

  • Traditional Music & Dance: As evening falls, the main square fills with the sounds of live traditional Macedonian music. Folklore ensembles dressed in historic regional costumes perform complex regional dances, inviting visitors to join in.
